2021 Year in Review
2021 saw a proud return to the old stomping grounds of Mesquite, Nevada. With our Northern Ireland trip postponed, we scrounged together 24 golfers to play some of the courses from our illustrious past.
For the first time ever we stayed at The Eureka Hotel & Casino. The rooms and amenities proved to be a good fit for the group. Unfortunately, the lingering effects of the Covid pandemic were still very prevalent in Mesquite and that detracted from our overall enjoyment of the trip. I played Pai Gow with plexiglass dividers and watched Rawn Emig get on a craps table heater that only a couple other guys in our group reaped the benefits from because tables were limited to 3 per side. Fortunately the Virgin River saved the day with food, their 24 hour cafe was going strong!
We got to play both courses at The Oasis and finish the trip at good ol’ Falcon Ridge. But the highlight of the golf was certainly Sand Hollow in St. George, Utah. What started out as a nice, simple, fun (ie average) layout on the front nine turned into a collection of world-class golf holes on the back. Many in the group were left speechless by the sheer beauty of the area. Definitely a course worth adding to your personal bucket list if you have the chance.
